Leonard B. "Lenny" Huninghake

Baileyville

Leonard B. (Lenny) Huninghake, 81, of Seneca, KS, died on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at Crestview Nursing and Residential Living in Seneca.

He was born in Axtell, KS on May 1, 1941, to Herman and Anna Osterhaus Huninghake. He attended St. Mary’s School in St. Benedict.

On October 16, 1965, he married Judith M. Wempe at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. After they were married, they lived in the Clear Creek Township They enjoyed 26 years of marriage before her death on July 20, 1990. Lenny then moved to his mother’s farm, a mile east of Baileyville, and retired from farming in 2020.

He loved to hunt and fish. Lenny was a quiet and reserved person who was content to be out in the open on his farm, enjoying nature. Lenny ran a bulldozer for many years helping area farmer build terraces or doing any general bulldozing.

Leonard was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. He served for several years on the Clear Creek Township Board and on the Marian Township Board; as well as doing road maintenance in those townships.

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his only brother, Raymond Huninghake.

He is survived by friends, neighbors and cousins.

A Rosary will be prayed at 9:30 AM, prior to the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM, on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. Burial will be next to his wife, Judy, in the church cemetery.

Memorials are for Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery and or Crestview Nursing and Residential Living, sent in care of the family.

    Lenny will be missed. So sorry to hear of his passing. I had the privilege of caring for him. He was a good man.

    I’m sorry to hear of my uncle Leonard’s passing. I’ve rarely seen him since my Aunt Judy passed, but my boyhood memory of Leonard was that he was quick to smile & always nice to me. May you rest In peace Leonard!
