Kirby Gene Stallbaumer
Seneca, Kansas

Kirby Gene Stallbaumer, 70, of Seneca died on December 12, 2022, at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka.
Kirby was born on November 29, 1952, to Herman and Margaret Nordhus Stallbaumer. At the early age of 13, he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. As a young man, he helped his father on the farm. Kirby attended and graduated from Centralia High School in 1971.
On June 1, 1972, Kirby was hired by the Nemaha County Road and Bridge Department. In 2002, he transferred to the Nemaha County Recycling Department, and on April 1, 2012, he retired due to his health. Kirby took pride in the recycling building and always made sure that it was always kept neat and clean and that recyclable items were deposited in the correct bins.
Kirby married Carol Ronnebaum on June 11, 1983, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Corning. The couple was blessed with one daughter. Kirby loved his dogs, and he was fortunate to live in a community that looked after him as he walked his dogs on his red scooter. Kirby was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1769; and served as Grand Knight from 1998 to 2000. He was a member of the Ponce DeLeon assembly of the 4th Degree. Kirby served his community as a Seneca Ambulance Driver from 1979 to 1985. Kirby was a member of the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca and the St. Joseph’s Society.
Kirby was one not to complain about his illness and always felt that someone was worse off. In July of 2008 he required an organ transplant and receive a gift of life in the form of a kidney and a pancreas. He was so grateful that gift granted him 14 years more of life. After Kirby died, he wanted to give back, and donated to someone that needed a gift that he was able to give.
Kirby is survived by his wife Carol of 39 years; his daughter, Melissa Stallbaumer of Seneca; and his siblings, JoAnn (Lonnie) McKinney of Haeker Heights, Texas, Galen (Pat) Stallbaumer of Topeka, Lynn (Virginia) Stallbaumer of Las Vegas, Nevada and Elaine Chase of Seneca.
Rosaries will be prayed at 2 and 7 PM on Thursday, December 15, 20220 at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Friday, December 16, 2022, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. The burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials will be designated at a later date and sent in care of the family.

Prayers and peace to all the family. Kirby was born two days before me. Mom told me that she and Margaret were in the hospital at the same time. I lost my beloved husband, Ken, in 2020. Time helps to ease the grief, but prayers help the most. Family and friends are a big help, too.

He serves as a role model for others to bravely deal with chronic illness. You provided exemplary care for Kirby and it showed! I hope God blesses your hearts with peace and happy memories.
