Josephine T. "Josie" Rottinghaus

Josephine T. “Josie” Rottinghaus, 85, of Corning, Kansas, died Friday, March 29, 2013 at Eastridge care home in Centralia.

Josie was born on May 27, 1927, on a farm north of Seneca, the daughter of Conrad and Josephine Sudbeck Siess Sr. She grew there and graduated from St. Mary’s Grade School in St. Benedict. She attended St. Mary’s College for one year and later Mount St. Scholastica in Atchison. Afterwards, she went to work for Kansas Power & Light in Kansas City.

She was married to her beloved husband of 60 years, Bernard H. Rottinghaus, on June 15, 1948 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Benedict. Bernard preceded her in death on October 7, 2008.

After marriage Josie and Bernard lived in Columbus, Ohio for a year and then moved to Kansas City. In 1961 they moved to Edina, Minnesota, where Bernard was a partner in an engineering firm. In 1984 they moved back to the Rottinghaus family farmnear Corning.

She was a member of St. Bede’s Catholic Church in Kelly and St. Ann’s Altar Society at the church.

Her hobbies were cooking, gardening, canning, crafts, researching the stock market, and she loved praying the rosary.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mary Ann Rottinghaus and Genevieve Gockel; and a brother, Conrad Siess, Jr.

Josie is survived by her children, Mark Rottinghaus of Corning, Kansas, Susan (Dan) Hills of St. Louis Park, Minnesota, and Mary (Torrey) Foster of Chicago, Illinois; four grandchildren, Kevin Rottinghaus of River Falls, Wisconsin, Jeff Rottinghaus of Roberts, Wisconsin, Claire Foster of Bloomington, Indiana, and Torrey Foster III of Exeter, New Hampshire; a great-grandchild; and a sister, Helen Rottinghaus of Seneca.

Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM Tuesday, April 2, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca, Kansas. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 AM Wednesday, April 3, at St. Bede’s Catholic Church in Kelly. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be given in Josie’s memory for St. Bede’s Cemetery in Kelly, and sent in care of the family.
