John Henry Roeder

Seneca, Kansas

John Henry Roeder, 92, of Seneca, Kansas, died on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca.

John was born on July 18, 1927, to Louis and Margaret McElroy Roeder in Seneca. He graduated from Sts. Peter & Paul High School in 1945. After graduation, John went to work for International Harvesters until 1952. He was employed by the State of Kansas in the Highway Department from 1952 to 1976; which he was injured on the job while working for the State of Kansas. In 1981, John and Dorothy bought and operated the Huddle Restaurant in Seneca, until they retired in 1994.

John married Dorothy H. Altenholfen on October 3, 1949 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. They were married for 64 years before her death on December 19, 2013.

John’s hobbies were wood working and helping out the Knights of Columbus Bingo for over 30 years; he also worked the SPPS Football and Basketball Gates until 1973. John was also on the Parish Council, where he was a past-president and also on the maintenance committee.

He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, St. Joseph Society, the Seneca Knights of Columbus council 1769 and the 4th Degree Ponce DeLeon Assembly all in Seneca.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; his parents; his brothers, Raymond and Donald; and his sister, Wilma Koelzer.

He is survived by his daughter, Bridget Roeder of Seneca and many nieces and nephews.

Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM on Friday, January 24, 2020 at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 AM Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. Burial will be in Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Seneca.

Memorials may be given for Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and/or the Epilepsy Foundation, and sent in care of the family.

 

Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM on Friday, January 24, 2020 at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.

Burial will be in Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Seneca.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 AM Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca.

    We are so sorry to hear about Johnny. You have been a wonderful daughter to both of your parents. I hope we can get to either the rosary or mass . It will depend on the weather and other circumstances. We can’t always get to everything these days. We hope you understand we will be there if we can. We are thinking of you.
