      Joan:

Thank you so much for your prayers and support. I know you worked with our Mom over the years……thank you for all your wonderful care. Our families had a lot in common dating back to the years in 4-H. The support of the Seneca community has been a wonderful blessing to us all.

Dear Schmits Family. We are very sorry to hear about Armella’s passing. My mom, Rita (Kongs) Feldkamp was her classmate at St Benedict’s and friend throughout her life. My mother would want the family to know how true a friend Armella was. They spoke to each other often and mom was always interested and delighted in the “girls” wonderful care for their mother. I have good memories of going to the Schmits homestead north of Seneca and playing with the older children especially Larry who was my age while our parents visited. I know that they she has joined Butch and Larry in a better place. She was a wonderful woman and she made a positive and happy mark on the world. May she rest in peace. Our prayers are with you. The Conrad and Rita Feldkamp family. (Alan, Duane, Loren and Brian and their families)

Thank you so much for your kind words. Rita and our Mother were definitely true friends and oh what the world would be like if everyone supported each other in the manner they did! We have such fond memories of your family as well. It was definitely a highlight for us “girls” when our Moms came to KC for a girls weekend not so many years ago. Rita and Mom laughed and giggled like they were school girls once again and we cherished every moment of that wonderful weekend! Your family was a special gift to ours and we will always keep you in our thoughts and prayers!

Dear Schmits Family: My cousin, Joan Lierz, wrote me of Armella’s passing. She, my mother, Irene (Mohrman) Cairns, and Rita (Kongs) Feldkamp were best friends in school and good friends for life. My mother always talked about her friends, Armella and Rita. I remember both of them visiting our family at our home on Spruce St. in Kansas City when I was a girl. I remember our whole family visiting her friends on their farms when we visited Seneca. Many years later Armella and Rita came to visit my mother when she lived at Cathedral Towers in downtown Kansas City. My memory of Armella Schmits is that she had a kind and friendly voice and always asked how I was. She was a gentle, loving person and a true friend to my mother. I am sorry for your loss.

We think of your Mother, Irene, often. Those ladies were such good friends! We heard about Irene and Rita frequently growing up and it makes my heart happy to think of how they kept each other close always. I remember visiting your Mother at Cathedral Towers and its like these ladies were never apart. There are 3 of Armella’s daughters in the KC area now; myself and two of my sisters. I am leaving you my phone number if you would like to call sometime and go over stories from their past. It’s truly the sweetest thing to recognize how close these ladies were and how much their friendship meant to each other. I can still remember their smiles and laughter when they would be together! Thanks for reaching out!

I never met Armella except as a young girl. I meet her through the words of my aunt and godmother, Rita Kongs Feldkamp. When Rita spoke of her lifelong friend, age was of no consequence. Both were young St. Benedict girls off into a world of adventure. You could hear the mystery of a golden touchstone friendship in Rita’s voice. This is how I picture them: forever young. What great pleasure to meet someone through another’s words: My friend.
    Your loss is shared.

    (My mother: Eulalia/Lela Kongs Tangeman)
