
Mildred
M. "Millie" Lierz
Mildred M. “Millie" Lierz, 76, of Seneca, died Tuesday,
June 6, 2006, at Life Care Center in Seneca, after a two year battle
with cancer.
She
was born July 21, 1929, in Seneca, one of twelve children of Christopher
and Agnes Waller Sack. She attended Sts. Peter & Paul Schools and
graduated from high school in 1947.
On November 23, 1950, she married Cyril
A. Altenhofen. They had two sons, Dennis and Mark. He died May 2, 1962.
On July 20, 1963, she married Joseph H.
Lierz at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. They lived and farmed
south of Baileyville for 27 years until 1988 when they moved to Seneca.
He died February 11, 1992.
Millie continued to live in Seneca and
was employed at Ray’s Apple Market in the Bakery Department for
18 years before recently retiring.
She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul
Church, St. Ann’s Altar Society and the Nemaha Valley Community
Hospital Guild, all of Seneca. She was also a former member of Sacred
Heart Church at Baileyville. Millie was an active, cheerful person who
enjoyed sporting events, bowling, cards, traveling, quilting, and walking.
Survivors are four sons and their spouses,
Dennis and SuEllen Lierz, of Albuquerque, NM, Mark and Becky Lierz,
of Baileyville, Tom and Wendy Lierz, of Seneca, and Jim and Rachael
Lierz, of Overland Park; three daughters and their spouses, Joni and
John Tangeman, of Sabetha, Susan and Jay White, of Manhattan, and Tricia
and Cayle Herl of Parker, CO; two brothers, Charles Sack, of Topeka
and Leon Sack, of East Point, FL; four sisters, Eileen Sheehan, of Kansas
City, MO, Mary Kirkman, of Houston, MO, Sally Koehler, of Seneca, and
JoAnn Davis, of Lincoln, NE; 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husbands Cyril
and Joseph, she was preceded in death by sisters, Kathryn Hedderman,
Eleanor Love, Virginia Ketter, and Rita Schulte; brothers Raymond Sack
and Bob Sack; and a great-granddaughter, Virginia Wood.
The mass of Christian burial will be 10
AM Friday at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. The burial will
be in the church cemetery. Rosaries will be prayed at 2 and 7 PM Thursday
at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given
for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Life Care
Center of Seneca, and sent in care of the family.
