Josephine W. Heiman,
94, of St. Benedict, Kansas, died Thursday, March 27, 2003, at Crestview
Manor in Seneca, Kansas. She had been a resident there since November
11, 1993.
She
was born January 17, 1909, on a farm southeast of Kelly, Kansas, the
daughter of Bernard and Elizabeth Sextro Buessing. When she was six
years old, the family moved to a farm southwest of Lillis, Kansas, where
she started school. Later the family moved to a farm southwest of Baileyville,
Kansas, where she also attended school. She helped on the family farm
and as a young woman did domestic work in several homes in Seneca.
On November 27, 1929, she married Frank
T. Heiman at Sacred Heart Church at Baileyville. They lived on the Henry
Heiman homestead northeast of St. Benedict until 1971 when they moved
into St. Benedict. Her husband, Frank, died May 31, 1975.
She was a member of St. Mary's Church
and St. Ann's Altar Society at the church at St. Benedict. Josephine
was a talented seamstress and taught all her daughters to sew. She also
enjoyed crocheting, other needlework, flowers and gardening.
Survivors are two sons, Frank J. Heiman
and Lambert Heiman, both of Seneca; seven daughters, Jo Ann Lierz, Loyola
Sudbeck, and Carol Lohmann, all of Seneca, Henrietta Quaney of Burlingame,
KS, Rose Mary McKay of Excelsior Springs, MO, Grace Rottinghaus of Lee's
Summit, MO, Ellen Westerhaus of Junction City, KS; a brother, Leo Buessing
of Axtell, KS; a sister Mary Skoch of Seneca; 37 grandchildren; 83 great-grandchildren;
and a great great grandchild.
Besides her husband, she was preceded
in death by a son, Joseph on January 11, 1952; three grandsons, Kurt
Rottinghaus, Roger Quaney and Gerard Lierz; two granddaughters, Alice
and Ruth Quaney; six brothers, Fredolin, August, Andrew, Henry, Sylvester,
and Alfred Buessing; and three sisters, Rose Kramer, Lena Broxterman,
Teresa Dowell.
The mass of Christian burial will be 1:30
P.M. Saturday, March 29, at St. Mary's Church at St. Benedict. The burial
will be in the church cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at the Lauer
Funeral Home on Friday at 2 P.M. and 8 P.M.
Memorials may be given for the Nemaha
County Training Center or St. Mary's Cemetery and sent in care of the
family.
