Janice E. Heiman

Janice E. Heiman, 59, of Baileyville, KS, died Sunday morning, July 13, 2008 at the Life Care Center in Seneca.
      Janice was born in Axtell, KS on June 2, 1949, the daughter of John I. and Ethel Wietharn Rottinghaus. She attended St. Mary’s Grade School in St Benedict, KS and was a member of the first graduating class of B&B High School in Baileyville in 1967. After high school, she attended Mount St. Scholastica College in Atchison for two years.
      She then moved to Topeka and was employed by Security Benefit Life Insurance Company. She married Gilbert L. Heiman on September 5, 1970 at St. Mary’s Church in St. Benedict, and the couple made their home three miles north of Baileyville on the family farm. Upon returning to Nemaha County, Janice worked at the Baileyville State Bank before becoming a homemaker and raising their three children. As their children grew, she went back to work at the Baileyville Animal Clinic in 1987 and continued there until 2001 when she quit due to health reasons.
       Janice was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Baileyville, where she was a member and past-president of the St. Ann’s Altar Society. She was a self-taught artist, who loved to paint in oil. She was also an avid reader, enjoyed playing cards, sewing, and tending to her flowerbeds.
      She leaves behind her husband of 37 years, Gilbert of Baileyville; a son Kent of Sabetha; two daughters, Julie Boeding of Wichita and Renee Heiman of Baileyville; her mother Ethel Rottinghaus of St. Benedict; four brothers, John H. Rottinghaus and Francis Rottinghaus, both of St. Benedict, Leroy Rottinghaus of Lee Summit, MO, and Eugene Rottinghaus of Plano, TX; and three sisters, Mary Jane Hammes of Seneca, Rita Buessing of Axtell, and Joann Rottinghaus of Olathe; and five grandchildren.
      She was preceded in death by her father and two infant sisters, Mary and RoseAnn.
      Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM on Tuesday, July 15, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 AM Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church in Baileyville, with burial in the church cemetery.
      Memorials may be left in Janice’s memory to the Sacred Heart Cemetery or the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital, and sent in care of the family.
