F. Haug
Dorothy F. Haug, 95, of Seneca, KS, died Tuesday, August 1, 2006,
at Atchison.
She
was born March 7, 1911, the daughter of Alex and Lillie Haynes McDonnell,
on a farm three miles east of Axtell. She attended St. Michael’s
School at Axtell and graduated from high school in May of 1929. In the
fall of 1929 she began to teach in various countryside schools of Nemaha
County, including Liberty School for one year, Plainview for two years,
Blue Star for five years, Humphrey for four years, Riverside for a year,
and two years at St. Patrick’s in Corning. She also taught for
twenty years at Sts. Peter & Paul Grade School in Seneca.
On July 20, 1938, she married Donald Haug
at St. Michael’s Church in Axtell. They lived in Seneca for a
few months before moving to a farm north of Seneca near the Rock School.
In 1943 they purchased a home just outside the Seneca city limits where
they lived for over 50 years. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary
in 1988. Her husband Donald died on July 31, 1992.
She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul
Church and the Altar Society at the church. Dorothy was know as an excellent
teacher, and with her inquiring mind was an avid reader.
Survivors are two sons, Gary Haug of Santa
Fe, NM and Dr. James Haug of Atchison; a sister, Rita Schneider of Beattie;
seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two brothers,
Keith McDonnell, on August 27, 1982, and Kenneth McDonnell, on May 15,
1988; and a sister Nola Mathewson, on March 22, 1975,
The mass of Christian burial will be 10
AM Saturday at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. Burial will be
in the church cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at 7 PM Friday at
Lauer Funeral Home.
Memorials may be given for the Benedictine
Sisters at Atchison or for Sts. Peter & Paul School at Seneca and
sent in care of the family.
