C. Dobbins
Geneva C. Dobbins, 92, of Goff, died Monday, April 10, 2006, at Crestview
Manor care home in Seneca.
She
was born November 22, 1913, on a farm near Corning, the daughter of
Benjamin and Lillian Sietz Lockhart. She grew up in Nemaha County and
graduated from Wetmore High School, where she took training to be a
teacher. She taught in the rural schools of Head and Evening Star in
Nemaha County and in a city school in Liberal.
On June 4, 1942, she married Raymond A.
Dobbins at the Goff Methodist Church and became a full-time homemaker.
They lived and farmed west of Goff. In 1967 she returned to teaching
in Goff, Corning, Wetmore, and Centralia schools before retiring in
1980. During the summers from 1931 to 1942, she attended Emporia State
Teacher’s College. In 1992 she and Raymond celebrated their golden
wedding anniversary. He preceded her in death on March 21, 1993. For
many years, Geneva spent winters with her daughters and sons-in-law
in Arizona. Prior to her death, she had been a resident of Crestview
Manor since February 2005.
Geneva was an active member of the Goff
United Methodist Church, and the United Methodist Women at the church.
She helped organize the Corning FCE Unit and was a member for more than
50 years. She was also active in the GFWC Goff Women’s Club, the
neighborhood Friendship Club, and the Eastern Star. Many members of
the Rustlers 4-H Club learned lessons in cooking and sewing from her.
Survivors are two sons, James of Goff
and John of Fayetteville, NC; two daughters, Mary Downs of Sun Lakes,
AZ and Ruth Lott of Anthem, AZ; and 4 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother,
Benjamin Lockhart, and two sisters, Margaret Lockhart and Evelyn Allen.
The family will meet with friends on Sunday
from 7 to 8 PM at the Lauer Funeral Home, where she will lie in state
after 4 PM on Sunday. Funeral services will be 2 PM Monday, April 17,
at the United Methodist Church in Goff. The burial will be in Fairview
Cemetery in Goff. She will lie in state at the church for an hour preceding
the services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests
contributions to the Raymond and Geneva Dobbins Memorial Scholarship
Fund at Kansas State University, to be sent in care of the family.
Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca is in charge
of the arrangements.
