Ruth M. Clowe,
93, of Seneca, Kansas, died Monday, July 9, 2001, at Crestview Manor
Care Home in Seneca.
She
was born July 2, 1908, at Centralia, Kansas, the daughter of George
and Emma Luepold Howard. She grew up there and attended Centralia public
schools.
On November 25, 1925, she married Harold
"Speck" Clowe in Marysville, Kansas. They lived in Seneca.
Ruth was a mother and a homemaker. After their own children were grown,
they provided foster care at different times to three boys and a girl.
Later she worked as a sales clerk at J.C. Penney's, the Florence Ann
Shoppe and the Thornburg Decorator. Her husband died February 29, 1992.
They had been married 67 years at the time of his death.
She was a member of the Seneca United
Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, of which she was a
past president. She was also a member and past president of the Seneca
Woman's Club, a member of the Eastern Star Iris Chapter No. 357, and
a charter member of both the Seneca Business and Professional Women's
Club and the Nemaha County Historical Society.
Survivors are a son, Derrel Clowe of Hastings,
Nebraska; a daughter; Carol Sue Noe of Topeka, Kansas; a sister, Norma
Talley of Olathe; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded
in death by a granddaughter, Kelly Noe on October 13, 1979; two sisters,
Ethel Farley and Dorthee Schoonover; and two brothers, Floyd Howard
and Loren Paul Howard.
Funeral services will be 11 A.M. Friday
at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca where she will lie in state after
8:30 A.M. Thursday. The burial will be in the Seneca City Cemetery.
Memorials may be given for the Stained
Glass Fund at the Seneca United Methodist Church or to the Seneca Free
Library and sent in care of the family.
