Fabian Burdiek
Fr. Fabian Burdiek,
O.F.M., 92, of St. Paul, MN, formerly of Seneca, KS, died Thursday,
March 20, 2003, at the Little Sisters of the Poor retirement home in
St. Paul, MN.
He
was born September 16, 1910, on a farm southwest of Seneca, the son
of Henry and Berdiena Feldkamp Burdiek. He attended the Diamond School,
Sts. Peter & Paul School, and helped on the family farm.
In 1932 he joined the Franciscan Order
at Teutopolis, Illinois, where he served as a Brother. In 1974 he was
ordained as a Franciscan priest at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca
by Archbishop Ignatius J. Strecker. Fr. Fabian served as an associate
pastor at St. Augustine Church in Chicago and at St. Agnes Church at
Ashland, Wisconsin. He was a chaplain at Mayslake Village in Oak Brook,
Illinois, and a hospital chaplain at Sacred Heart in St. Paul. He had
been a resident at the Little Sisters of the Poor in St. Paul since
1984 when he retired.
Survivors are a sister, Anna Kruse of
St. Joseph, MO and a brother, Joseph Burdick of Seneca. He was preceded
in death by two brothers, Ben Burdiek, on December 17, 1978, and Frank
Burdiek on October 10, 1979; and a sister, Sr. Julitta Burdick, O.S.B.
on November 19, 1993.
The mass of Christian burial will be offered
at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, March 26, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church
in Seneca. The burial will be in the church cemetery. The rosary will
be prayed at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca at 7 P.M. Tuesday.
Memorials may be given for Sts. Peter
& Paul Church or for the Little Sisters of the Poor and sent in
care of the family.
