Raphael P. Broxterman

Raphael P. Broxterman, 87, of Baileyville, Kansas, died Saturday, July 21, 2001, at Countryview Estates Care Home in Seneca, Kansas. He had been a resident at the care home for about two weeks.
     He was born December 18, 1913, at Baileyville, the son of William and Anna M. Larkin Broxterman. He attended Baileyville School and a year at Maur Hill High School at Atchison, Kansas.
     On November 17, 1937, he married Elmerina M. Haug at Sacred Heart Church in Baileyville. They lived in Baileyville where they owned and operated the Broxterman Oil Co. along with a Conoco Service Station and a tank wagon service. In 1978 they sold their business and retired. In November of 1987 they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.      His wife, Elmerina, died June 27, 1989.
     He was a member of Sacred Heart Church at Baileyville. He was on the committee working to bring water from Seneca to Baileyville.
     Survivors are a son, LeRoy Broxterman of Hutchinson, Kansas; two daughters, Arlene Lackey of Georgetown, Texas and Linda Broxterman of Seneca, Kansas; a brother, Kenneth Broxterman of Chicago Heights, IL; three sisters, Cecelia McEnaney of Shenandoah, IA, Ann Sommers of Topeka, and Viola Haug of Axtell, KS; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
     He was preceded in death by five brothers, Aloysius, Celestine, Virgil, Gilbert, and Lawrence; and three sisters, Rose Dultmeier, Dorothy Lierz, and Loretta Carter.
     The mass of Christian burial will be 10 A.M. Wednesday, July 25, at Sacred Heart Church in Baileyville. The burial will be in the church cemetery. The rosary will be prayed on Monday at 7 P.M., and on Tuesday at 2 P.M. and at 7 P.M. at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
     Memorials may be given for Sacred Heart Church or Nemaha Valley Community Hospital and sent in care of the family.
